Coal Rank Distribution within the Bluesky - Gething

چکیده
The top of the Gething Formation is one of the more important formational picks routinely performed by the oil and gas industry during their exploratory and development drilling as this horizon is very c:on-tinuous through northeastern British Columbia and much of northern Alberta. The name Bluesky is given to the rock unit which occupies this stratigraphic level, namely a sandstone-conglomerate unit of marine origin which separates the continental coal measures of the Gething Formation from thc overlying marine shales of the Moosebar Formation (see Fig. 32). The Bluesky is commonly glauconitic .and has a variable thickness (0 to 50 metres1 over relatively short distances and most likely represents shoreline deposition of the rapidly transgressing Clearwater Sea from the north. The Bluesky-Gething is an important petroleum producer in the Fort St. John area. Coalification is mainly a result of temperature to which the host sedimentary rocks are exposed. In turn, this temperature is determined by the geothermal gradient and the depth of subsidence. Coal rank is the1.e-fore a very sensitive indicator of these temperatures. A coal rank map of a specific stratigraphic horizon is particularly useful in portraying regional variations in geothermal heat-flow, tectonism, and post-deposi-tional basin history. Any coal rank variation due to differences in the stratigraphic level of the coal occurrences is eliminated because only one stratigraphic horizon is sampled. This effectively screl?ns out the back

There are two major coal-bearing formations in the Peace River Coalfield in northeastern British Columbia, The Gates and the Gething. The younger Gates Formation hosts to the two major coal mines that have operated in the area; therefore there is some coalbed methane (CBM) information available for the formation. In contrast there is very little CBM information available for the older Gething F...
متن کاملDistribution of trace elements in coal and coal fly ash and their recovery with mineral processing practices: A review
Today coal is among the most important energy sources. In order to meet the world's energy demands, low-calorie lignite with a high ash content is generally used in the large capacity coal-fired thermal power plants. As a result of coal firing, wastes such as fly ash, slag, and flue gas are also produced. Subsequently, toxic trace elements within coal are transferred to wastes such as slag, fl...
متن کاملCoal Ash as a Low Cost Adsorbent for the Removal of Xylenol Orange from Aqueous Solution
The removal ofxylenol orange from aqueous solution onto the coal ash was investigated at room temperature. The results show that the adsorption capacity of xylenol orange increased as the adsorption time increased and then equilibrium established after 30 min adsorption time. The results obtained revealed that the coal ash removed about 80 % of xylenol orange from the aqueous solution withi...
متن کاملPore Structure Characterization of Coal by Synchrotron Small-Angle X‐ray Scattering and Transmission Electron Microscopy
Coal is a porous medium with complex pore structures. The characteristics of the pore structure play an important role in various aspects of coal use, including extraction of methane from coal seams, CO2 sequestration in coal, and water purification by activated carbon. To describe comprehensively the pore structure of coal, we apply transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and synchrotron small-...
متن کاملA review of simultaneous ultrasound-assisted coal flotation
Ultrasound can be used both simultaneously or as a pretreatment technique for flotation to produce higher combustible recoveries, higher heat values, and lower ash data from raw hard coals. The recent research works have indicated that modifying coal surfaces, especially physical surface cleaning with the help of the cavitation process created by power ultrasound at certain frequency and time i...
